Supporting Transitions

The Little Tree
Ages: 5-8 years
This is a beautiful book portraying the changes and transformations that are a part of life--as hard as some of them may be. In this story a young tree does not want to let go of his leaves as the seasons change, even though the trees around him are doing so. I swear this book is just as relevant for adults and parents (it is so hard to watch our own kids grow up and for us to let go!)

The Koala who Could
Ages: 3-5 years
By the same author as “The Lion Inside” comes a story about a Koala who likes to stay in his comfort zone, where things are safe and predictable. When change comes along, he learns to embrace this challenge. This is a GREAT story about stepping out of your comfort zone, having a growth mindset, and finding your courage.

Mae’s First Day of School
Ages: 3-7 years
Great read for kids who are starting school or have difficulty adjusting to new environments (new classes, new places, new activities). In this story Mae experiences lots of nerve-wrecking emotions about starting school and finds some great support to help her get through the worries.

The World Needs More Purple People
Ages: 3-7 years
This book provides a wonderful message about embracing the things that bring us together as humans. It encourages children to find the common core values that make us good people and to develop those values. This book offers a great message on finding common ground and focusing on what really matters!

First Day Jitters
Ages: 5-8 years
This is great for kids that are undergoing change. Transitions and new environments can be so hard sometimes! And we all know what the first day jitters feel like! This book is about a girl who has to change schools and how she navigates the feelings and worries that come along with that.

The Lion Inside
Ages: 3-5 years
Even the smallest of beings have an inner lion inside their hearts, and even the largest of beings can be scared. This is a GREAT book about learning to not judge a book by it’s cover but also about the power of courage lies within every single person. I love the message of this story so much!

Maybe Tomorrow?
Ages: 4-8 years
This is a beautiful and heartwarming story that depicts the feelings of grief, loss, and the difficulty in transitioning through life events. Elba carries around a big dark block while Norris dances everywhere he goes. This story demonstrates the power of friendship, kindness in healing.
